Ben Ladenites of Lebanon: I have mentioned the role of Hariri Inc in unleashing the Bin Ladenites in (and on) Lebanon. But there is, to be fair, another lousy role in this regard by Najib Miqati (a billionaire, client of the Syrian regime). Miqati, as is well-known, is figure head run by his powerful brother, Taha Miqati, who has a strong relationship with the Syrian regime, and with the Asad family. Miqati, when he was building his power base in North Lebanon, cultivated ties with, and showered money on, the radical elements. I am told that among fanatics in North Lebanon, you will find pictures of Bin Laden (or Zarqawi) side-by-side with pictures of Miqati. In the 2000 election, Taha Miqati lobbied the Asad regime to release some of the militant Sunni fundamentalists (those loyal to Hashim Minqarah of Tripoli), and they did. Miqati has been silent in recent days. Mini-Hariri is still watching developments in Lebanon very closely from a short distance.
