In a famous literary/personal fight between Amin Rihani and Mikha`il Nu`aymah that followed the latter's biography of Jubran Khalil Jubran, Nu`aymah quotes Rihani describing Jubran's writings as "mawkish sentimentalism."--see for details Sab`un by Nu`aymah. If that the is the case, then the Jubran of Mansur Rahbani's latest "play" on Jubran must qualify as something far below "mawkish sentimentalism." Vulgar, demagogic, and crude kitsch, maybe? And in Lebanon, An-Nahar's culture industry, regards the play as a great work of art.
