A very tough (and accurate) piece about the corruption of `Abdul-Halim Khaddam (former vice-president (out of 559 vice-presidents) of Syria. Khaddam now lives in a palace on rue Foch in Paris, according to the article. The article also mentions the buying of former Syrian chief-of-staff, Hikmat Shihabi, by Hariri Inc. Charles Ayyub is a brave journalist, but as of late he has become predictably and uncritically and very submissively loyal to the Syrian regime, especially after banking secrecy was lifted from his bank account by the Mehlis team, perhaps to punish him for his skeptical coverage of Hariri investigation. And he is not a good writer, but says what others don't dare say. And his newspaper is the only dissenting voice among Lebanese newspapers in present-day Lebanon. But what Ayyub left out is that not only the former team of the Syrian regime (during Asad's years was corrupt), but the current team of Bashshar Al-Asad is also corrupt. We are talking about Rustum Ghazalah for potato's sake. And Hariri was not the only one who bought his influence in Lebanon through the corrupt members of the Syrian political-military-intelligence elite: this was also done by Michel Al-Murr, `Isam Faris, Najib Miqati, Muhammad As-Safadi, among many others. But the scale of Hariri's bribes was unmatched, of course.
