The Crow by Syrian poet Muhammad Al-Maghut (my translation):

"I wrote about peace, but wars erupted
about order, but chaos spread
on heroism, but treason prevailed
on hope, but suicide rate increased
on increase in productivity, but
development rate decreased
on family planning, but streets
were filled with deviants and delinquents
on love, but divorce and abortion increased
on environment, but nuclear waste
was buried between the homes
on steadfastness, but embassies were
crowded with seekers of political
religious, sexual, and economic asylum
It appears that in all these years
I set my anchor and throw my net
in the dead sea!"
