The last speech by Zarqawi was particularly kooky. He said that "people on earth are three segments as far as Islam is concerned: The first segment are those who are the community of Islam who are members of it; the second segment are those who are peaceful and in detente with Muslims, for dhimmah or truce or protection vow, and the blood of the two groups [of this segment], is protected unless one of them does something that makes his blood spillable and his money available [for confiscation] according to jurisprudence...And the third segment are the entire rest from the people of the earth, as every infidel on earth who does not make peace with Islam and does not have detente with Muslims for dhimmah or truce or protection is a combatant infidel who has no protection at all, unless he is of those who are forbidden to kill like children and women." But Zarqawi has been killing people belonging to all three segments. But he is getting defensive it seems knowing of the contempt that Muslims and others have been holding him with. He also for some reason attacked the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Fath movement, and Hizbullah. This statement, and the reported letter from Dhawahiri to him, refute the claims that were made by Fouad Ajami in WSJ last week (I replied to it in a post here). In other words, when Ajami claims that people in the Arab world are not speaking out against Zarqawi, you can easily tell him that Dhawahiri, Dhahwahiri for potato's sake--seems to be speaking out against Zarqawi. This exchange of letter between Zarqawi and Dhawahiri indicates the serious crisis that those two know they face among Muslim Arab public opinion.
