`Izzat Ad-Duri speaks, again. So Ad-Duri has sent a long letter to the Iraqi people. But I was struck by its political language: it read more like the Ba`thist rhetoric of the 1970s, and not the heavily religious rhetoric of the Saddam's Ba`th since the 1990s. Even the earlier messages of Ad-Duri were more religious in tone. That could be due to a new generation of Ba`thists taking over the party, and infusing their own version of the Ba`th ideology in its political rhetoric. I heard such things from people who follow Iraq and meet with Iraqis in Lebanon over the summer. Nothing new in the letter, but I noticed that he was bragging about "new" methods and tactics, and then added "sources of funding." He also stressed his rejection of any dialogue with the occupation or its people in Iraq. Of this I am sure: the Iraqi people will never allow this bunch to return to power.
