Why Al-Jazeera is better than Al-Arabiyya: it is often (rightly) maintained that those two networks reflect the views and biases of the funders (the Qatari and the Saudi governments respectively). But there is no question that Al-Jazeera, far more than Al-Arabiyya, allows more room for open debate and criticisms than Al-Arabiyya, even when it comes to Qatari affairs. Now while Al-Jazeera does not air any discussions of domestic Qatari affairs, it does allow airing of criticisms of Qatari foreign policy, and you will never hear a word of criticisms of Saudi Arabia on Al-Arabiyya. Never. I at least twice criticized Qatari government, and the foreign minister by name, on Al-Jazeera. Just last week, after the meeting between the foreign ministers of Qatar and Israel, Al-Jazeera regularly aired interviews with Palestinians and other Arabs against such meetings.
