Who made Zarqawi? I agree with the thesis of Zarqawi's biographer Fu'ad Husayn in his new book on Zarqawi. He argued that the US government is responsible for the creation of the Zarqawi cult in the Middle East. Eager to "prove" that all the resistance to US occupation in Iraq comes from some outside nefarious conspiracy, the US military wildly exaggerated the deeds, activities, and role of Zarqawi. This, argues Husayn, only made him look impressive and mighty, in the eyes of some in the Middle East, who started to flock to join his movement, and wealthy Gulf Arabs began funneling money to his movement. Of this I am certain: nobody is more damaging to the real war on terrorism than the leader of the bogus "war on terrorism."
