Lebanese communists commemorate the anniversary of the Lebanese National Resistance Movement. It was founded on Sep. 16, 1982 by three communist groups (Lebanese Communist Party, Communist Action Organization, and the Socialist Arab Action Party-Lebanon) against Israeli occupation of Lebanon. The Syrian government later restricted and restrained their activities. The role of an Iraqi, Hashim `Ali Muhsin (leader of the Socialist Arab Action Party-Lebanon) is often obscured in press accounts of the group although George Hawi mentioned him in his memoir with Shirbil. In fact, Muhsin coined the name, and he started a group with that name back in 1978, after yet another Israeli invasion.
