From the poem Roman Amphitheatres by Syrian poet Muhammad Al-Maghut (my translation):
"The future of Iraq is bleak
the future of Palestine is bleak
the future of liberty is bleak
the future of unity is bleak
the future of liberation is bleak
the future of the economy is bleak
the future of culture is bleak
the future of love is bleak
the future of the weather is bleak
and above that:
there is media censorship
and there is political censorship
and there is military censorship
and there is economic censorship
and there is cultural censorship
and there is sectarian censorship
and above that power blackout
every 30 minutes,
and yet they only talk
about transparency these days!"
