The bloody record of Rafiq Hariri: what the Saudi Arab media will never reveal. Fill in the blank. Talking of books and memoirs. I have just received the crates of books that I ship from Lebanon whenever I am there. I have just read the book of interviews with George Hawi conducted by Ghassan Shirbil of Al-Hayat in the mid-1990s. It has been issued by Dar An-Nahar under the title George Hawi Yatadhakkar. Among the things he said: "Ghassan [Tuwayni] is democratic except when he reaches power. They all are democrats before reaching power." (p. 85). On the question of who funded the Lebanese civil war, Hawi said: "...And there are Lebanese parties that funded, and it is known that (...) provided aid to both sides....and he was generous with both sides. He paid the Lebanese Forces and the [Progressive] Socialist Part." (p.118)
