US government must be so pleased with Al-Arabiyya TV. The other day, Al-Arabiyya repeatedly aired training footage by Al-Qa`idah, in which trainees railed against the US, and threatened violence. If Al-Jazeera had aired that tape, Rumsfeld would have publicly denounced it. I would argue that Israel must also be so pleased with Al-Arabiyya. On the day the Israeli soldier shot at Arab civilians in Shafa `Amru, Al-Arabiyya covered the event with this headline: "Sharon condemns the shooting of Arabs." Of course, he did. Sharon (or Labor Party's Peres, lest you think that I buy the silly American leftist distinction between Labor and Kikud) prefers massacres of Arabs that he personally orders and approves.
