Sexism in Sexist Saudi Arabia: Saudi media have been promoting the release of a new "study" which reveals that some 50% of car accidents in Saudi Arabia are caused by women. This was used to perpetuate the legal ban on women's driving. Al-Arabiyya TV prefaced a segment on this issue by saying: "We at Al-Arabiyya are not for or against women." I kid you not. But those media references did not notice that the "study" also means that men were also responsible for 50 % of the car accidents. But the director of traffic control in Riyad-Mecca said on Al-Arabiyya that he has never heard of this study, and expressed his doubts about this media frenzy.
