I felt sad about the passing of Peter Jennings. We were not friends, but I knew him in the late 1980s when I was a graduate student in Washington, DC when out of the blue he hired me as a consultant for the network when his good friend Charles Glass (ABC correspondent at the time) was kidnapped in Lebanon. I was sent to Lebanon to find out the circumstances behind his kidnapping. Upon my return, I had a chance to talk to him, and on another day, I spent the day in his office when ABC News was experimenting with a new news format (that did not materialize). He was a very nice and decent human being, who had a deep interest in the Middle East and its issues. He felt that Arabs did not get a fair share in US news coverage, and he did his best to change that, as much as he could in a mainstream US media outlet, which is not much for sure. He knew the Middle East well, and liked to talk about it.
