I am so enraged by the US media coverage of the impending partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, which constitutes a very small percentage of historic Palestine, and Israel will continue to maintain control over Gaza's air, water, and passage points. The coverage in the US press is obsessed with the plight and welfare of the colonial settlers, and not with the Palestinian victims. And now a group of wealthy Americans are donating millions of dollars to help the colonial settlers. And the US Middle East envoy, James D. Wolfensohn, the former World Bank president who did so much in the past to impoverish the poor around the world--if you hate poor people you have to give him credit--contributed $500,000 of his own money. If he were to donate a nickel to Palestinian refugees he would lose his job, not that this heartless person would ever do such a thing. So while any withdrawal of Israel from any Palestinian land should be celebrated, and should never be attributed to some non-existing peaceful motives on the part of the Zionist project, we should be aware that this happened due to continuous Palestinian pressures that would not rest until Palestinian rights are fully restored, and the refugees are returned AND compensated.
