Right-wing sectarian Maronite leader Duri Sham`un claimed in an interview on LBC-TV that the US government was behind the electoral law and plans for the Lebanese election, and that Sa`d Al-Hariri made an agreement with the US during his recent visit to the US. In other news, Future TV interviewed Sayyid Muhammad Hasan Al-Amin, who launched a new Lebanese movement known as Shi`ite Meeting. It was intended as a pro-Hariri alternative to Amal and Hizbullah. His movement did not get much support, and mostly comprised Shi`ite journalists and staffers who work for Hariri, Inc. And Hizbullah and Amal started a whispering campaign accusing Al-Amin (without any evidence of course) of being backed by the US. In his appearance he slammed the host, (and cursed him off camera according to the host in the widely watched Khallik Bi-l-Bayt) when he was asked about the matter of the weapons of Hizbullah. He went on to warn of US plans and conspiracies in Lebanon, and said that he is even better equipped to face US and Israel than other groups. He refused to criticize Hizbullah and that is when the shouting match occurred. But the advocates of the Hummus Revolution (supported by the early reporting of Hassan Fattah--to his credit he mentioned Lebanese divisions in the last dispatch) want you to believe that the Lebanese are united.
