Where was Saddam arrested, and does it matter? There are thousands of Iraqi prisoners in Iraq, and thousands of Arab prisoners in the Arab world and Israel, and some vulgar Arab lawyers are volunteering to defend Saddam Husayn. They had a press conference in Jordan yesterday, in which details about the recent meeting between one of the lawyers and Saddam were revealed. The pro-Saddam (and pro-Bin Ladin) newspaper Al-Quds Al-`Arabi had a field day with the news about Saddam in his cell. He was apparently quoting poetry and Qur'an, and Al-Mustaqbal newspaper reported that Saddam disputed the story of his arrest in the hole. It said that he was arrested while praying in Baghdad. The lawyer who met with Saddam confirmed the story but did not provide details. Lastly, I misidentified the title of Husayn Shahrastani about Saddam's brutal regime. The book's title is Al-Hurub Ila Al-Hurriyyah (Escape To Freedom), not from freedom. Escape From Freedom is of course the title of the book by Erich Fromm.
