The Syrian Muslim Brotherhood held a conference in London. Among their resolutions was a demand that the Syrian government conducts an official investigation of the massacres in Hamah in 1982, in which more than 10,000 people were murdered by regime troops. I never agree with the Muslim Brotherhood on anything, but I certainly agree that the Syrian government should conduct this official investigation. But I have no hopes. I do not believe that the Arab regimes are capable of reform, or of any good to speak of. Having said that, please do not take my comments as a call for another American war of "liberation." I will not speak on behalf of Arabs (or of Americans) but I can safely say that any and every Arab prefer her/his current conditions--as unpleasant as they are--to the horrific conditions of Iraq, which Bush had intended to be a model for the Arab world. A model my...potato.
