A kooky website tied to Al-Qa`idah has posted the full length (18 minutes) of the recent Bin Laden message. This website is specialized (among other prejudices) in anti-Shi`ite bigotry, and intense misogyny. But you expect that from that Al-Qa`idah gang. I just watched the video. It begins with a warning: to the effect that "this video should not be played with the accompaniment of music because it contain Qur'anic citations." What was that about? This one has the typical visuals and graphics of As-Sahhab productions (which is the official audio-visual propaganda arm of Al-Qa`idah). The version I saw has English subtitles running under his image, but the picture was not clear enough for me to evaluate the accuracy of the English translation. This full length was more threatening in tone and message: and it has something in the beginning about avoiding a repetition of Sep. 11 (but he phrased this in a threatening manner directed against the American people). Watching this one closely, you find him short of breath and dry mouthed (liked the Dec. 2001 video message). Iraq figures more in the message than the segment aired by AlJazeera. I still find this message an odd one, and the date is given as 10 Ramadan (which would have been a week or so ago). I will watch it again, and give some opinions. This is not an ideal evening for me: watching a victory by Bush, and then watching a Bin Laden tape. Watching a music video by Tony Danza would have been better.
