This is why I am stunned when I read accounts of Sistani in Washington Post as if he is some secular modernist. I also notice that his Arabic site contains fatwas (binding religious rulings) that are not on his English site. But I think that the English site contains fatwas that are in response to submissions made in English. Here is an example of a Sistani ruling:
