English, French and Arabic copies of the novel, with its depiction of Jesus marrying Mary Magdalene and fathering a child, were pulled off shelves on the orders of the General Security Department after the Catholic Information Center, which speaks for Lebanon's Roman Catholics, recommended that it be banned.
