Al-Mustaqbal newspaper is reporting on Tuesday that a Taliban Emirate has emerged in Sunni areas of Iraq, South of Baghdad covering the localities of Yusufiyya and Latifiyyah, and the district of Mahmudiyya. According to residents, non-Iraqi elements established the Taliban Emirate there, and conducted acts of assassinations and kidnapping on the road near those districts which extends to Najaf and Karbala'. Some of the elements come from Afghanistan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Those elements roam the streets in their cars, carrying their weapons openly. They have terrorized residents--according to the newspaper and I am almost translating the account here--and are responsible for assassinations, especially of Shi`ites. 35 people have been killed at their hands. They have blackmailed some Shi`ite clans, and bombed their concentrations. They declared the infidelity of the Shi`ites, and write anti-Shi`ite graffiti on the walls. I am certain that the American public would be outraged if they know the extent to which George W. Bush has compounded the problem of terrorism since Sep. 11, and especially since the crazy invasion of Iraq.
