Have you noticed that the only Iraqis who are profiled or humanized in US media are the (lucky?) Iraqis who work for the US occupation? This is a profile from today's San Francisco Chronicle of an interpreter who was killed. This sentence caught my attention: "she was an assertive woman in an area where women are supposed to be docile. Supposed to be docile? About Middle East women? Nobody who really has dealt with Middle East women would call them passive, submissive, or docile unless you derive your images of Middle East women from trashy sources like Not Without My Daughter.
