A cab driver in Beirut was telling me about his strong love for and attachment to his mother. He said that before getting married, he asked his fiance: "What shall I do to you if you cheat on me?" According to him, she promptly answered: "You will hit me, of course." He said: "No, I will not hit you, but I shall immediately divorce you. But the one thing that will cause me to hit you, is if you ever displease my mother or hurt her." He talks to his mother every couple of hours, he told me.
