The head of a U.S. military police unit at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison is under investigation following charges he secretly photographed naked female American soldiers, officials said on
Wednesday. What bothers me about this controversy is this: the military in the US is so worshipped (more so nowadays by college-age people than by their parents by the way) that it is not subject to political or economic scrutiny. Will anybody address the culture of violence that is embedded in all military institutions? Will anybody address the culture of sexism and pornography that permeate military institutions? Do you know about the culture of sleaze, pornography, and brothels that surrounds US military bases worldwide? Read Cynthia Enloe's Bananas, Beaches, and Bases.
