I have lived for more than 20 years in this country, but I often fail to understand it. There is more outrage it seems over the appearance of Janet Jackson's breast than there is over the devastating wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. And the NFL, which is known for upholding morality and the values of gender equality and respect for women, has issued a statement: Statement by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue regarding the Super Bowl halftime show: ..."The show was offensive, inappropriate and embarrassing to us and our fans. We will change our policy, our people and our processes for managing the halftime entertainment in the future in order to deal far more effectively with the quality of this aspect of the Super Bowl." As is well-known, the NFL has always stood against the commodifcation and objectification of women.
