song for Palestine

"" "Oh Palestine, when will our freedom come?" Dania asks in her song.""

For an accurate sense of the views of Palestinians, you may turn to WINEP and Fox News

"“Nobody can forgive Hamas for what they’re doing," the journalist said. "No one can forgive Hamas for butchering Palestinians to get power. Most Gazans hate Hamas with a passion."" The funny part is that the article also relies on a "reliable poll" of Palestinians conducted--before the war, mind you--by none other than WINEP.   To this rubbish, Hamas can easily say: OK, let us hold elections.  It is US and Abbas who don't want elections.  (thanks Michele)

The Phenomenon of ISIS

Excuse me but I would like to be spared sermonizing from one religion toward another about the need for tolerance and moderation, especially when the sermonizing religion is Christianity.  Every religion has within it a version of ISIS. And the West is the last to speak and preach on this because ISIS sprang from Saudi Arabia, a state whose very survival (read the last Snowden document on that) is a function of stated US and Western policy.

Israeli media complicity

Friends of Gaza?

From Alfred: "I do not think Western and Arab countries will have "friends of Gaza" meeting. More interesting, imagine if they have any more "friends of Syria" convention, and what a joke that would be?"

Ukraine and Israel: learning to shell civilians

From Don:  This is very interesting. Hennadii Nadolenko Ukraine’s ambassador to Israel explains in an op-ed in Haaretz where the Ukrainian Army and militias learn how to shell civilians in Eastern Ukraine:
“For the past two weeks, my colleagues and I have found ourselves not as mere witnesses, but rather also unwilling participants in the recently inflamed conflict between Gaza and the State of Israel. …We had the opportunity to witness the action of Iron Dome, Israel's missile defense system. We are closely monitoring the progress of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO), 'Protective Edge,' in which the Israeli army is currently engaged […]
Therefore, I would like to highlight that I, as a representative of Ukraine, appreciate the help that my state has received from the citizens of Israel over the past months. I express my deep gratitude to all the members of the group "Israel supports Ukraine" and, in particular, the volunteer group "Israel helps Maidan wounded" for their support of Ukraine and Ukrainians.
In these difficult days for our nations, overflowing with sad news, I would like to bow my head in memory of the Israeli and Ukrainian heroes who have died defending their people from terrorists. "

From Gaza now

benwedeman (@bencnn #Gaza now: 1,062 dead, including ca 200 children (+70 % civilians); 6,037 wounded, 167,269 (ca. 1/10th of the population) displaced.

Humanitarian cease-fire: Gaza and "israel"

Not all Saudi writers are like those you see in the West advocating for this Saudi prince or that

Read this excellent advocacy for Palestine by a Saudi writer, even in the mouthpiece of Prince Khalid bin Sultan.  Many Saudi writers are courageous advocates for Palestine and not like those in the entourage of Saudi princes on Twitter.

Democratically elected?

I dont watch US TV news anymore but heard a few minutes in the car on CNN and it was enough to let me know all I need to know about the coverage.  Michael Oren was on CNN and he talked about Israel being "the only democratically elected government".  Israeli propaganda needs to be updated: that line works with regard to Egypt and Jordan and Syria but no more applies to Gaza. Hamas government in Gaza is in fact democratically elected (in the most free election which was only marred by the infusion of US and Gulf money to sway the results) and the only reason why another election has not take place is due to US objections because they can't guarantee the victory of the clients of occupation, Fath.

CNN on Gaza

You know how far CNN (and other US media are in covering the conflict) when the anchor (the Israeli Wolf Blitzer who started his career in writing for the publication of the Israeli lobby, Near East Report) says: and now for the Israeli perspective from the former Israeli ambassador in the UN, Michel Oren, who also is a CNN Middle East analyst.

Palestinian public opinion and Mahmoud Abbas and his family

Yesterday, a Palestinian news agency reported that the two sons of Mahmoud Abbas donated blood for Gaza. Just read the comments under the picture here.  Also, remind yourself of that pro-Abbas pollster who tells Western journalists that Abbas is more popular than ever.

Israeli terrorists killed those children

A century of Zionism and they refuse to be defeated

Existential threat to Israel increases: Palestinian resorts to using fireworks against Israeli troops. Washington Post outraged

"rocks and even fireworks".

Humanize Palestine

In Memory: spread widely

No matter where Palestinians are killed and how, the New York Times will find a justification

When the New York Times assigns Isabel Kirshner to a story you know that the Times wants only the Zionist point of view:  "Three Palestinians were fatally shot by Israeli forces in Beit Ommar, near Hebron in the southern West Bank, according to local activists, as a demonstration erupted into a violent confrontation. They identified the three as Sultan Shuqdam, Abd al-Hamid Breigheth, and Hashem Abu Maria."  But the Syrian regimes makes the same claim about demonstrations in Syria and I recall the Times rejected that claim every time.

Look at the false symmetry in the Times

"3,209
targets in Gaza
struck by Israel

856
Palestinian deaths

 2,233
rockets launched at Israel from Gaza

40
Israeli deaths"  Notice that the comparison is not logical or symmetrical.  Notice that they don't do a breakdown of civilian versus military casualties, and notice that they count "targets hit" in Palestine instead of counting numbers of rockets, bombs, and missiles launched by the terrorist state. They also could have counted at least the tons of bombs dropped which had exceeded the 3000 mark by last week.

Headline of the New York Times

One more time: the headline today is: "Israel Agrees to Pause in Assault on Gaza as Cease-Fire Deal Is Pursued".  You have to read the article to get to this sentence: "According to Israeli news media, Hamas also agreed to the initial 12-hour lull". But that is not in the headline. The Washington Post in contrast had this headline: "Two sides agree to ‘humanitarian pause’ in Gaza".

German Zionism fabricates videos and claim that they are from this month

Zionists are desperate given the international (outside of the US, which is NOT the whole world) condemnation of Israeli war crimes. The facts and reality is against them so what do they do? They resort to their classic tactics and methods: lie, fabricate, and invent.  They are now widely circulating this video ostensibly showing Hams fighters preventing people from leaving their homes during Israeli attacks. In reality, this footage is from 2007-8 during the clashes between Fath and Hamas fighters in Gaza. (thanks Peter)

Correction. Saudi ambassador in London

This is a very angry response from Saudi ambassador in London (a prince) to David Hirst. What is interesting is that the letter contains the first ever admission of Israeli-Saudi contacts, although the prince assures us it is only for peace purposes.
PS correction. It is David Hearst and not Hirst.

Isareli Orientalism

I have often written that Israeli Orientalism is the worst of its kind and that the quality of Israeli experts on the Arab world is rather quite low.  Look at this chart at Ben Gurion Airport: instead of the Arabic word for arrival (wusul) they mistranslated it as "landing".

In Gaza, pediatrics wing crowded with war wounded

"Here are portraits of 11 children recovering from their injuries at Gaza City's Shifa Hospital. They range in age from two to 10. Most were wounded in airstrikes on their homes or neighborhoods, with injuries ranging from a broken pelvis to a broken nose and fractured skull." (thanks Amir)

Abbas Season in Israel

From Eyal: "The Google translation misses in some places, but you'll get the ghist of it. An appropriate metaphor for the relations between Israel and Fatah."

Western media ignore protests by Arabs in 1948 Palestine

Snowden files: The NSA’s New Partner in Spying: Saudi Arabia’s Brutal State Police

"The Saudi Ministry of Interior—referred to in the document as MOI— has been condemned for years as one of the most brutal human rights violators in the world. In 2013, the U.S. State Department reported that “Ministry of Interior officials sometimes subjected prisoners and detainees to torture and other physical abuse,” specifically mentioning a 2011 episode in which MOI agents allegedly “poured an antiseptic cleaning liquid down [the] throat” of one human rights activist. The report also notes the MOI’s use of invasive surveillance targeted at political and religious dissidents.

But as the State Department publicly catalogued those very abuses, the NSA worked to provide increased surveillance assistance to the ministry that perpetrated them. The move is part of the Obama Administration’s increasingly close ties with the Saudi regime; beyond the new cooperation with the MOI, the memo describes “a period of rejuvenation” for the NSA’s relationship with the Saudi Ministry of Defense.

In general, U.S. support for the Saudi regime is long-standing. One secret 2007 NSA memo lists Saudi Arabia as one of four countries where the U.S. “has [an] interest in regime continuity.”"

comparing Syria and Gaza

From Alfred: "If people are going to compare Israeli aggression to the Syrian Civil conflict, why mention ONLY Homs? According to the Syrian opposition media "observatory for Human Rights" less than 30% of the total persons killed in the entire conflict (killed by BOTH SIDES) have been civilians. In the Israeli war on Gaza, over 99% of the civilians that have been killed are Palestinians killed by the Israeli terrorist state. "

Zionist pornography

"This English translation of the Hebrew “Kansu” as “pound” (or its synonym “bang,”) literally means to beat, but also has a colloquial meaning connoting sexual penetration. In the Hebrew original, the double-entendre is inverted: “Kansu B’” has the colloquial meaning of physically attacking someone, but literally means to enter, sexually or otherwise – this sexual connotation can be found on multiple Hebrew-language sex blogs.

The phrase “their mother,” “ima shelahem” in Hebrew, also has the colloquial meaning of “with great intensity.” The idiom developed precisely because, for many people,  witnessing their mother being assaulted is more painful than  receiving a blow to their own person. In the context of the city’s banner, the language of sexualized violence is borrowed in order to articulate ruthless subjugation of Gaza’s Palestinian population.

Clearly the Or Yehuda City Council’s intent was to show support for the Israeli army with what it considered to be clever wordplay. By choosing the crass expression “Kansu ba-ima shelahem” – meaning “beat them with great intensity” and also “enter their mother” – the council was both encouraging violence toward Palestinians and subtly tapping into rape culture, which is widespread in Israel.

The banner’s appearance in Or Yehuda came just days after a composited image suggesting Gaza’s sexual violation was widely shared by regular Israelis on the popular social networking application, WhatsApp." (thanks Baheyya)

Maybe this will get the attention of Western liberals and maybe Nicholas Kristof will organize a rescue mission

There will come a day

Comrade Amer is right: there will come a day when the Palestinian side will be able to inflict as much damage on the civilian population of Israel as has Israel inflicted on the Palestinian population over the decades, and when that happens the American public will express sentiments of outrage and horror that were never expressed over what Israel has done to our people.
