The student reception of Immanuel Wallerstein in Iran represented to the Economist--in the most bizarre explanation--love for America by Iranian students: "Many of the students did not know who he was, but wanted to see an American scholar anyway." Or this: "For others, he still represents America, even if he challenges the global status quo." If somebody asks me about the Economist coverage of the Middle East, I would say: dumber and dumber.
