Christiane Amanpour

If you read me you know that I rarely watch US TV news, except when I am on the road sometimes.  I watched Amanpour yesterday on CNN speak about Syria: forget about politics, but for the life of me, I could not believe that this passes as foreign policy analysis and journalism.  She is to journalism what Barbara Waters is to...journalism and what Thomas Friedman is to...foreign policy analysis.  The irony of this all is that she is considered the best of them all, in terms of her journalism.  She is part of that despicable quintessential American-style celebrity journalism, but her subjects are foreigners. That is the only difference.  She can speak about Syria for an hour without offering one insight or even one piece of information.  She thinks that by faking emotions, she is filling in for what is missing in terms of analysis.
