One newspaper here carried an article about an organization in the Philippines which works for the welfare of Philippino workers abroad. In the last three months, three Philippino domestic workers in Lebanon jumped to their deaths, in an attempt to flee the abuse of employers. None of the families of the three could afford funerals for the workers. Stories of abuse of domestic workers in Lebanon abound. The state is silent and negligent on that front; a few human rights organizations here have begun to take up the cause. Much is yet to be done. Next post will be from London, where I arrive tomorrow, and where I will have more time to express...anger.
