Thomas Friedman does not even pretend to call for democracy in the Middle East

"We need to protect the islands of decency out here — Jordan, Kurdistan, Lebanon, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Oman".  What is "decency" in international law and political thought? But the shallow mind of Friedman would not care to answer.
