Syrian regime TV has not stopped using images and songs from the 1973 October to brandish its ostensible patriotic credentials. But I think I am missing something there: how could the 1973 war be used to underline the credentials and legitimacy of the regime?? In 1973, the Ba`thist regime went to war to try to recover lands it had lost back in 1967. And it lost, and it did not recover the lands and it is still occupied. So the Syrian regime commemorate a war that basically reminds us that it lost the land twice, not once? What gives?
