Arab liberalism is another euphemism for House of Saud. And of course such voices are lauded in the West. When former comrade, Sadiq Jalal Al-`Azm, was a hard core Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist he was never mentioned in the Western press and he was invited to the US only by Arab-American groups. When Al-`Azm started talking the liberal talk and the (racist) discourse of Western enlightenment back in the early 1990s, he became a favored guest in the US and by Western media. Now I understand when Edward Said meant when he told me back in 1992 that Princeton University invited Al-`Azm only because he criticized Edward Said's Orientalism.
