Saudi-American Plot to conquer the Shi`ites
So the Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Muqrin, has been sponsoring Ahmad Al-As`ad (the son of the last feudal Shi`ite za`im in Lebanon, Kamil Al-As`ad) in order to create an alternative to Amal and Hizbullah. Some factions in the US government have also been pinning hope on Al-As`ad who lives in Christian East Beirut. Such are his fortunes among the Shi`ites of Lebanon. Of course, it is clear from the last election that the best this man can hope is to get 1% of the Shi`ite vote in Lebanon and much of the votes that he received in the last election was in Christian villages. But Saudi intelligence chief is showering the man with many although there are no indications of any change in Shi`ite public opinion whatsover. So yesterday, the dude (who was almost in tears back in the early 1980s when he complained to me about how his father screwed up his education of which he has none) visited South Lebanon and the family's residence in Taybah. A group of demonstrators (presumably from Amal) quickly showed up with sticks and rocks and their numbers clearly exceeded the number of Al-As`ad "followers" even from the footage of LBC-TV which--following Saudi and LF orders promotes Al-As`ad. A clash ensued. But what got my attention is the names of "the Shi`ite followers of Ahmad Al-As`ad": they were to a person Christians. They must be on loan from the Lebanese Forces. So my last words to Prince Muqrin: good job o Prince. You are making progress. Just as Bush was making progress in Iraq. Keep it up.
