Nicholas sent me this: "Denying egg rolls to Israelis dining in Asian restaurants on Tuesday was only the first salvo in the battle to reverse the government's decision to deport foreign chefs. As part of a plan to reduce the number of foreign workers in the country, the Israeli government will deport Japanese, Thai, and Chinese chefs in Israel's 300 Asian restaurants and replace them with Israelis. The battle will escalate in two weeks with a freeze on serving sushi and noodles, according to the Israeli Ethnic Restaurant Organization. The 900 permits for foreign chefs issued last year was reduced to 500 this year and none will be issued next year. Asian food is a $280 million a year industry."
