When I read this: "As enraged crowds protested the hanging of Saddam Hussein across Iraq's Sunni heartland Monday, government officials reported that 16,273 Iraqi civilians, soldiers and police died violent deaths in 2006, a figure larger than an independent Associated Press count for the year by more than 2,500." I thought of Kanaan Makiya. Remember that guy (who had promised occupation soldiers "sweets and flowers" from Iraqis) when he wrote editorials in many US newspapers titled "Thank You America"? And who assigned him to speak in the name of Iraqis? Thank you America? For the civilian death toll? And he has not written "thank you America" pieces as of late, I have noticed.
