A source on politics, war, the Middle East, Arabic poetry, and art.

For those who study and follow the Middle East, this is an important article. The first one I see about a new cultural and religious phenomenon in the Middle East, the TV preacher `Amr Khalid. He is so popular around the Arab world. Several years ago, I predicted to my mother that he will be a huge hit. I can see an effective demagogue and charlatan when I see one; he also is a good [Islamic] story teller. But don't be misled: I once heard him lash out against women, and he sounded like Falwell or Bin Laden. He has now Religious Industry tied to his name, with everything to sell, from books, DVDs, to potatoes. I don't want to list his website, because I know he brags about the number of visitors to his site.
