The brilliance of Rashid Fayid, and why the Lebanese civil war went on for a very long time: This Hariri journalist at An-Nahar was on LBC-TV. Among the many silly things he said (especially his analysis of US foreign policy) was his theory for the longevity of the Lebanese civil war. Citing the authority of Ghassan Salamah, he said that the civil was was so prolonged because the Lebanese are so brilliant and devised ways to cope with the war, which facilitated its extension. He gave the example of the parition of Cyprus: according to this man, the Cypriot people are not as brilliant as the Lebanese and that is why they did not engage in a protracted civil war. So in other wars, the longer the civil war, and more savage it is, the more brilliant the people. OK.
