So who do US correspondents in the Middle East rely on for insights and information? Usually, it is: 1) "a Western diplomat" (read US diplomat), 2) cab drivers, 3) Israeli experts and Fouad Ajami. Here an example: ""All Lebanese hate the Syrians," a driver in Beirut said. "They are just afraid now." Now the New York Times accurately reports the feelings of the Hummus Revolutionaries in Lebanon regarding the Syrian people: ""Animals!" Ms. Fadul raged, walking through her house, as workers shoveled trash from the place. "They are not even people."" Upon reading this, Bush hailed "the freedom fighters" of the right-wing opposition in Lebanon.
