So the man that the US (and UAE) hoped would become the most important Sunni figure in Iraq, `Adnan Pachachi, packed his bags and returned to Dubai, where he worked for years as advisor to the royal family. Apparently, he was just furious that his one-seat victory in the 275-member National Assembly did not lead to his winning the presidency, vice-presidency, or the prime ministership, which he really wanted. He could not understand why his well-funded campaign, and his one precious seat were not sufficient for him to construct in Iraq an Afghanistan-like republic, where Karzai just officially announced the beginning of an eternal US occupation of his country. Members of Pachachi's political party are now scrambling to opporunistically join other existing parties. After all, the polgyamous vice-president, Ghazi Al-Yawir (Saudi Arabia's man in Iraq) was able to "obtain" that position on the basis of earning 4 precious seats in the Iraqi National Assembly.
