I just read the full transcript on AlJazeera. It includes some sections and references that were not in the sections of the tape that aired on AlJazeera. I am more suspicious than ever now. The entire text and tone of the speech is rather different from the typical Bin Laden's statements. This one has even "footnote" references to Time magazine (he said Times magazine), and he named `Abdul-Bari `Atwan (editor of Al-Quds Al-`Arabi) and Robert Fisk as people who had interviewed him. I also noticed that Bin Laden's reference to Saddam Husayn as "agent" of the US did not get any US media attention because it clashes with Cheney's persistent contention of a Saddam-Al-Qa`idah alliance. I also found it odd that Bin Laden would talk about US "national interests" and the interests of the Americans, having shown no such concern for that (in words and deeds) in previous declarations. It is true that the word he used at the end of his message ("every "state" that does not toy with our security has by definition guaranteed its security") is rather odd. Wilyah is state (as in the various US states) but can be used to refer to a politcical order or sovereign power. I wonder what it is meant here. One more time, whoever wants to listen to Bin Laden's messages to decide on voting preferences should have her/his head examined.
