George W. Bush has won the election already. I really believe that, and even before the vote count in Florida begins. When I heard his comments today (including this passage: "We are a nation in danger. We're doing everything we can in our power to confront the danger. We're making good progress in protecting our people and bringing our enemies to account.") I knew that it is all over. And please include this passage from the non-partisan and non-biased comments of Tom Ridge of Homeland Security Department :"But we must understand that the kind of information available to us today is the result of the Presidents leadership in the war against terror.") That is all what it takes; to scare the public into conformity, submission, loyalty, and patriotism. And nothing ensures citizenship loyalty than unending series of patriotic festivities and scare tactics and methods by the government. And Bush's opponent is a lousy campaigner; he is defensive, weak, shifty, and inclined toward hesitancy. The American voters (I am generalizing, I know) do not like their president to look very intelligent and they like him (they still insist on male presidents you know) to be certain and unequivocal, even if his/her certainty is matched with deep ignorance. Clinton's brilliance was in his ability to hide his intelligence (and to stand for very little in terms of principles). Bush, who is one of the most incompetent, ignorant, intellectually lazy, unqualified leaders on the world's stage today is politically skilled, however. He is very disciplined when it comes to campaigning: whatever Rove asks of him, he complies, to win. (Nixon was a rare example: extremely knowledgeable and qualified in foreign and domestic policy, and very shrewd politically--a dangerous combination perhaps).
