I was prompted to write this by some of the comments. The hypothetical question being "what if Iraqis freely select a religious or fundamentalist rule"? The answer,in my opinion, is that people may select their form of government and we (critics and opponents) may express our disagreements and opposition. Also, some--at least some--fundamentalists do not consider women to be qualified to enter the political arena, and their male members make decisions on their behalf. I have read reports of members of Jaysh Al-Mahdi (Army of Mahdi, As-Sadr's militia) intimidating women into adhering to "appropriate" behavior and dress. Of course, having said that, I do not believe that this is a matter for US armed forces to settle. This is an Iraqi problem for the people of Iraq (and me, of course, as I interfere in internal affairs of all countries) to decide. You see, the US is unwittingly (and foolishly) helping the forces that it claims it opposes (of course, the US never was concerned about pro-American fanatical fundamentalists (House of Saud, for example). Oh, and I received a call from Fox News: but will try to keep avoiding mainstream media until further notice.
